ON THE MOON BY 2027

With a "New Space Age" coming about, NASA's Artemis programs aim to have mankind on the moon by 2027 and China's plans to construct lunar bases are projected for 2035. This provides a new opportunity to develop products catered to interplanetary colonies.

Redefining Modern Planter Aesthetic and Purpose

Luna aims to stir into a new direction, one where we are headed in the near future -Space. It not only serves the plant but sustains both plant life and humans in extraterrestrial terrain.

Modern plant pots have been the same for the past decade, with a similar style, the "modernity" becomes lifeless. Planters are used as decor and often serve one purpose, "to hold the plant".

Once my form was validated, I added the finishing touches and decals. The enclosure is an open variant, rather than the original enclosed.

Using the contours of my form, a study form was made from laser-cut plywood. Validating my form and size, a 12-inch diameter planter.

Our Target Part

To make the planter not only host life but also feel and look alive. I wanted to add a section of the planter that plays with breathing lighting. Thus I opted for a unique parametric design paired with a backlight that grabs the user's attention.

Finding the surface points, was tough as it was a trimmed surface. Used untrimmed surface CVs to obtain points within the trimmed surface.
